Part IV: Start Building!
Making Purchases

Now that you've got the basics, you're ready to build. Here's how to make purchases with your card.

What You Can Buy

The purchase charge card is a valuable tool but not a blank check. Therefore, before you use the purchase charge card, you need to know the limits on its use and manage your purchases against those limits. You can buy any commercially available good or service not prohibited by either federal or agency-specific procurement regulations. If a purchase appears questionable to you, consult your A/OPC or Contracting Office.

There are a number of purchases that are STRICTLY PROHIBITED. The purchase charge card shall not be used for:

  • long-term rental or lease of land or buildings
  • travel or travel-related expenses (excluding conference rooms, meeting spaces, and local transportation services such as metro farecards, subway tokens, etc.)
  • cash advances (unless permitted by Agency/Organization)
These items are NEVER to be purchased using the purchase charge card.
